Geography

United States firms, plus firms elsewhere that file with the SEC or appear as the sponsor in a US transaction.

Included

  • Firms with SEC Form ADV or Form D filings for private equity funds.
  • Sponsors named in dated transaction announcements and resolved to a firm.

Excluded

  • The funds themselves, portfolio companies and people, which are counted separately.
  • Holding entities and duplicates merged into another firm record.

Methodology

Each firm is one entity on the private equity graph after entity resolution by SEC identifiers and names; merged duplicates count once.
