Allocator

In private markets, an allocator is an institution or investor that commits capital to fund managers rather than investing in companies directly: public and corporate pension plans, endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds, insurers and family offices. Allocators set an asset allocation policy with target weights for each asset class and choose managers to fill it, often with an investment consultant's help. In a private fund they are the limited partners.
