NAV loan

A NAV loan is a loan to a private fund secured by the net asset value of the fund's portfolio, rather than by its investors' uncalled commitments. Funds late in their life use NAV loans to return cash to investors, support portfolio companies or finance follow-on investments without selling assets. It differs from a subscription line, which is secured by the limited partners' unfunded commitments and is used mostly early in a fund's life.
