About this graphUnited States registered investment advisers from every Form ADV filing since 2011 and the SEC's monthly roster, joined to the individual advisors on IAPD's daily firm and individual feeds, the private funds those advisers report, their Schedule A owners and control persons, their Item 7 affiliates, and advisor moves and team lift-outs read as two registration dates. The adviser count is the firms SEC-registered today; every CRD that has ever filed stays on the graph with its history.Every SEC and state adviser filing is on the graph; advisor moves are complete for people still registered (the IAPD roster is survivors only before 2026-09-15); no book size is public or estimated.Computed by the ria / wealth management graph's statistics view from form adv, every filing; the adviser roster; firm and representative feeds; the public lookup, on demand; shared identifiers, joins pending. Sources refresh on their own cadence: IAPD feeds diffed twice daily; the roster monthly; the ADV extract yearly.Advisers: published RIA stats totals.firms sec registered: adviser CRDs on the current SEC roster; state-registered and former filers are on the graph but not in this count. Advisors: published RIA stats totals.advisors: every current investment adviser representative on the IAPD individual feed. RAUM reported: published RIA stats totals.RAUM reported: the sum of regulatory assets under management as each adviser filed it on Item 5.F; affiliated advisers report overlapping assets, so the sum overstates the market. Private funds: published RIA stats totals.private funds: fund identifiers ever reported on Schedule D 7.B(1), including funds no longer reported on the adviser's latest extract filing. Advisor moves, 12m: published RIA stats totals.advisor moves 12m: a registration ending at one CRD and beginning at another within 400 days, in the last twelve months; bulk corporate re-registrations are typed out. What changedHow this block is rankedMarket events on this graph whose source states a date between Oct 3, 2026 to Nov 2, 2026. Bookkeeping and undated items are left out, as they are on the events feed by default. Each event is scored 40% on the feed’s importance score, 25% on recency inside the window, 20% on the dollar amount (log scale, unverified amounts count zero) and 15% on the source’s stated confidence. Ties go to the later date. “Important now” is the top 5, at most 2 from any one group; one story prints once. Each group’s count is the exact number of events its link opens.
The historical tape is survivors only: IAPD is a current roster, so a person who left the industry before 2026-09-15 is not on it, and moves before then are those of people still registered. The daily diff fixes that forward.
Broker-only representatives are absent (BrokerCheck is restricted); a dual registrant appears through the IA side.
Private fund reporting runs to 2024-12-31 (the SEC extract); the roster carries fund counts only after that.
The wirehouse list is curated (seven CRDs); every other firm class is a printed rule over client counts and assets.

Derivation: count of first filings grouped by year of the filing date
Source: DFX published series, ria formation by year
2026, latest complete year. Peak 2021 at 2,900
RIA / Wealth2,002▼ -0.7%
Range: 2012 to 2026
Read with care: The SEC extract carries first filings to 2024-12-31; 2025 and 2026 arrive from the monthly roster and the daily IAPD firm feed and are incomplete.
Advisor moves by quarter and move typeHow this chart is builtPopulation: published RIA moves typed firm change or firm change after gap with a destination (bulk corporate re-registrations excluded)Derivation: count of moves grouped by the quarter of the left date and move type (wirehouse, independent broker-dealer and RIA, in each direction)Source: DFX published series, ria moves by quarter
Q3 2026, latest complete quarter
Range: Q4 22 to Q4 26
Read with care: Survivors only before 2026-09-15: a person who left the industry is not on the IAPD roster, so historical moves are those of people still registered. The current quarter is partial.
RAUM is printed as reported and double counts affiliates: an adviser and its relying advisers each file the assets they manage, and the roster total is a sum of filings, not a market size.
No per-advisor AUM is public, and none is estimated. RAUM per advisor is a firm average over its IAPD headcount and is never a person's book.
A move is two registration dates: a registration ending at one CRD and another beginning at a different CRD. Nothing is inferred from an absence.
Bulk corporate re-registrations (25 or more people from one firm to one firm in a month, at least half of the firm's departures that month) are classed as bulk transfers and excluded from flows, events and moves.
Mobility signals are not published. A team lift-out is a fact (several registrations ending and beginning together); nothing on this graph predicts who moves next.

Form ADV, every filing
Every adviser filing from 2011 on as the regulator releases it, so an adviser's history is read rather than inferred from its current form.

Of the 2 feeds that record a read, 100% were read in the last day, 100% in the last week and 100% in the last month. A feed is read on the cadence its publisher changes on, so a quarterly filing being a quarter old is the correct answer rather than a stale one.
Every source is registered with its publisher, access mechanism, cadence and a rights determination before its first row is read, and a source without a green determination never reaches a page. The registry itself is not published: which feeds exist, which answer, and which are worth reading is the work. What is published is the provenance of every individual claim, on the record it belongs to, and the shape of what stands behind it. Buyers running diligence get the registry under contract.
