Why information is missing
Absence of information is not absence of activity. DFX shows what public records show; a firm that has not filed, a deal that was not announced, or a field a regulator does not collect will not appear. Masked names are a plan limit, not missing data.
- The source does not collect it (for example Form ADV has no email field, and many private deals are never announced).
- Coverage is partial for that area (real estate parcels cover Massachusetts and New York City; private credit maturities appear only where the BDC tagged them).
- The field was withheld on purpose (private individuals as property owners, personal contact details).
- It is masked on your plan: the value exists and the page says what it withheld (for example 9 additional relationships).
- It is newer than the source's latest filing.
DFX shows a missing value as missing, never as zero, and a failed read as an error, never as an empty market. If a page says a section could not be read, reload it; that is a temporary read failure, not a finding.
