What counts as a change

A change is flagged when principal moves 5% and $250k, a mark moves 5 points on cost, a maturity moves 90 days, a spread moves 50bp, or PIK appears or rises. Maturities inside 12, 18 and 24 months are flagged too.

Worth knowing

  • A mark is fair value over cost. Below cost is not the same as impaired.
  • Each BDC's holding is one piece of a loan, so principal held is a lower bound on the facility.
  • A maturity shows only where the BDC tagged it in its filing (roughly 40% of debt rows).
  • A borrower with no sponsor attribution is unattributed, not sponsorless.
